I make the henna paste myself out of natural henna powder from Rajasthan (India), this powder (crushed leaves, twigs or dried leaves) comes from a flowering plant called Lawsonia inermis.

Natural henna is never black, henna is a paste made out of henna powder mixed with coconut sugar, distilled water and essential oils. When someone says they do black henna they are probably using some additives which may be harmful to your skin. Natural henna produces a beautiful orange to dark maroon stain that gives different color on different skins. On palms, the color is darkest, on the back of the hand the color is lighter and on the arms it gets even lighter. The color comes at its best after 24 to 48 hours after the application.
